About Us
The Independent Electoral Commission is a body established by the Constitution of the Simon Fraser Student Society. Article 14 declares that the Society "shall maintain an Independent Electoral Commission" that "shall be responsible to ensure that Society elections and referenda occur in the prescribed manner as set out in these By-Laws, and any regulations governing the conduct of elections or referenda."
In practice, this means the IEC is the body responsible for ensuring that SFSS elections are free, fair, democratic, and honest, and that all candidates play by the same rules.
The Commission consists of a Chief Commissioner and four associate Commissioners. All five individuals are ordinary students nominated and appointed by the SFSS Board of Directors, and are chosen for their experience, knowledge, work ethic, and independence.
