The Simon Fraser Student Society General Election will be held from Tuesday, March 20th through Thursday, March 22nd, 2012. The following positions on the SFSS Board of Directors, as well as every seat on student forum, are now open for nominations:

- External Relations Officer
- University Relations Officer
- Internal Relations Officer
- Faculty Representative for Arts and Social Sciences
- Faculty Representative for Business Administration
- Faculty Representative for Science
- Faculty Representative for Applied Sciences
- Faculty Representative for Health Sciences
- Faculty Representative for Education
- Faculty Representative for Communication, Art and Technology
- Faculty Representative for Environment
- Member-at-large seats (2)

ELIGIBILITY TO RUN:
For the purpose of this election, potential candidates will be recognized as a member of a faculty if either of these two requirements is met:
1. Student is currently registered in at least one class in that faculty, or
2. Student has declared an Honor/Major/Minor in the faculty.
NOMINATION PERIOD AND PROCESS:
The nomination period is from Monday, February 20th at 8:30am, through Monday, March 5th at 12:00pm. Nomination forms will be available online at http://elections.sfss.ca or from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) office located in Maggie Benston Centre, Room 2240.
To be nominated, students must collect signatures from at least 10 members of the student society (or for faculty-specific positions, 10 students in the appropriate faculty). Please note that the eligibility of these students will be verified before nominations are approved. Completed nomination forms must be returned to the IEC office by Monday, March 5th at 12:00pm. Late submissions will not be accepted.
CAMPAIGN PERIOD:
The campaign period begins at 12:00pm on Monday, March 5th and will continue until Monday, March 19th at 11:59pm.
ELECTION POLICIES:
Candidates who wish to advertise their platforms in an official election supplement should refer to the Electoral and Referenda Policy (R-17) for information regarding submission of material. In order for such materials to be published, they must be submitted to the Chief Commissioner by the nomination deadline; late submissions shall not be accepted. Campaign budgets may not exceed $50 and are subject to strict regulations. It is important that students who are considering running in this election familiarize themselves with the rules and policies regarding posters and use of space. Candidates for President, Treasurer, Internal Relations Officer and Member Services Officer are subject to criminal record checks. Candidates will be held accountable for any breach of the campaign rules. ONLINE VOTING:
Voting will be conducted using secure SFU web surveys. Voting will commence at 12:01am on Tuesday, March 20th and will continue uninterrupted until Thursday, March 22nd at 11:59pm.
On or before Monday, March 20th, students eligible to vote will receive an email containing links to the voting sites. Eligible students may vote anytime within the given period, but any attempt to vote outside the given period will be denied. All voting will be anonymous and there is no risk to personal information. Students will need their SFU computing IDs to participate in the vote. The system will only allow students in each of the faculties to vote for their faculty representative, but all eligible students may vote for non-faculty positions. Students should check to see if they are eligible to vote in more than one faculty.
ELECTION RESULTS:
Barring any unforeseen difficulties, the results will be posted on the Independent Electoral Commission’s website shortly after voting has finished. However, election results will not be considered official until rulings are made on all outstanding appeals.
