My name is Emad Shahid and I am currently a 4th year student pursuing my Bachelor in Business
Administration degree at the SFU Beedie School of Business. Being part of the SFU community
for four years, I have developed an ambition to improve the student life on campus. Also, I have
the accounting skills required to efficiently do my job as a Treasurer
I will ensure valuable management and oversight of the build SFU project. I appreciate efforts
of the current and past board of directors, who have worked hard to get the student union
building and the levy associated with it approved. As Treasurer, I will ensure that SFSS is able to
fulfill its promise of developing a community based a student space on campus.
Upon being elected I will develop a budget that ensures sufficient funds for student clubs and
departmental student unions, which are an integral part of the student community at SFU. I
will ensure that funds are directed towards the unions and the clubs that add value to student
life. I will conduct budget analysis for the last three to five years and the progress of each SFSS
department during that time-frame. Based on this analysis, funds will appropriately be directed
towards the different departments.
I will work with the Food and Beverage Services General Manager to draft a strategy to reduce
the deficit of the society’s Food and Beverage Services. Through effective communication,
analysis of staffing levels, cost of sales and profit margins, I will be able to take on the
challenges faced by F&B Services.
Finally, I will strive towards funding programs that allow greater student participation in all
valuable decisions that the society makes. I will ensure that all decisions that I make as a
treasurer will benefit the students at large, not only in the short run but also in the long run.
